Everyone
has music that they are into. It says something about our personalities
and our outlook on life. It's a good indicator of how we feel about
other people, ourselves, the world, life and all sorts of stuff.
We would have included some snatches of music from each album but
of course that would infringe copywrite and be ILLEGAL.
We know it's corny, but here's what music we like and something
about why we like it.......oh and which one of us likes it......I
mean Deb does have an album by 'Five Star'.

Cafe
Del Mar- Volumes 1-8
compiled by Jose Padilla
This is the best thing in the world. Chill out house from the DJ
who does it best. It's a collection of laid back ambient styles,
to listen to while dreaming of that summer spent sitting outside
the actual Cafe Del Mar in Ibiza.

Kate
Bush - Lionheart
or anything by Kate
Kate is one of my many female composer/performer heros.
She writes such fantastic lyrics and amazing melodies. Her production
technique is unique to say the least and when she was 17 she was
a definite babe.

Kiss
in Ibiza 1997
House or garage is cool by us
You've had the chill out end of Ibiza. Here's some hard house. Lots
of bangin' PHATT beats! We love clubbing. It's the best way to get
rid of shit and create your own world for a few hours. As well as
having a good laugh with a load of mates.

Suzanne
Vega - Suzanne Vega
The first and the best
Another great lyricist. Beautiful melodies and haunting vocal style.
Excellent sarcastic and ironic nature to her songs and great minimalist
production on her early albums.
|
|
The
Beatles - Rubber Soul
Anything by the Beatles
It's not possible to create a favourites list without including
The Beatles. I have every album and most of the original 7" singles,
which may be worth a bit now. What can I say? I mean it's The Beatles.
The best songwriters in the world ever.

Tori
Amos - Little Earthquakes
Great first album, shame about the rest
Great first album by Miss Amos, but not much cop after that. I must
admit to not listening to much of her stuff anymore, but at the
time it came out, this album was so fantastic. Good lyrics and funny
melodies, with a hint of Kate Bush.

Jane
Wiedlin - Tangled
Great pop album
Jane used to be in a band with Belinda Carlisle and a couple of
other famous chicks. Can't remember what it was called though. Anyway,
this album was recommended to me by my mate John Ryan. It's just
got loads of great pop songs on it. Nothing earth-shatteringly.
Just good.

Innocence
- Belief
Nowt to say
much but I like it.
|
|
The
Smiths - Singles
Every Smiths album was beautiful
Much like the Beatles, I couldn't put a favourites list together
and not include everything The Smiths ever did. They were the most
revolutionary band of my youth. Morrissey and Marr were able to
capture the emotion of youth and the minds of teenagers in spine
tingling lyrics and heartfelt gutwrenching tunes.

Joan
Osborne - Relish
Only one UK hit, but a lovely album
Whatever happened to Joan Osborne? I really like this album. Apparently
she's massive in the states. The music is that rustic American soulful
guitar sound, (see Alanis Morrissette). Quite morbid at times and
sarcastic with interesting production.

|
Madonna
- True Blue
Mads at her very best
The queen of pop. She has to be in here. I really loved her when
she was doing all that 'True Blue' pop stuff. then she went into
that naff 'Vogue' phase and now she's suddenly found this great
writer and done a couple of storming dance tunes. Good girl. Bless
her.

Supergrass
- I Should Coco
The best new band in ages
If The Smiths were the revolutionaries of my youth, then Supergrass
are the revolutionaries of my mid twenties. You know the battle
between The Beatles and The Beach Boys to be the best band in the
world. I see the same thing going on between Supergrass and my band
RUTH. Not.

Dire
Straits - On Every Street
Actually not a good example
In 1983, my friend Vernon Thompson, got me into Dire Straits. I'm
not sorry, because they really were very good indeed. Another great
lyricist and musician. The early albums are so raw and 'Making Movies'
is arguably one of the finest ever albums to be recorded by any
band anywhere anytime.
|
|
Pet
Shop Boys - Actually
Another great pop record
Neil Tennant eh? We met him in a recording studio once. More pop
stuff, coz I like pop. I don't really listen to The Boys anymore,
but I used to a lot and I have to recognise the influence they had
on my musical life.

Tracy
Chapman - Tracy Chapman
One great UK album and no more
Like Joan Osborne, what ever happened to T.C? No, not Top Cat, Tracy
Chapman. Beautiful first album. Maybe she just didn't have enough
songs in her to make a career. Mind you, she may well be massive
in the states too.
